Asante Sweater designed by Marianne Isager
Stunning sweater !!
From ‘Knitting Out of Africa’: “The geometric blocks in this sweater were inspired by a collage of patterns printed on cloth by the Asante people of Ghana. The front and back are worked in stockinette stitch from the lower hemmed edge to the shoulders. Knitted in garter stitch, four different blocks of intarsia slip-stitch motifs decorate the center front; another block decorates the upper back. To prevent the garter-stitch motifs from drawing in vertically, there are extra short-rows in each motif – four rows are worked for each motif for every two rows worked for the rest of the body. The sleeves are fashioned in stockinette stitch from the hemmed lower edges to the notched armholes. A stand-up collar, worked double thickness (gray on the outside, white on the inside) is topped off with a tiny rolled edge.”
There are two colours used in this design – Main colour (MC1 and MC2) of two different yarns and Contrasting colour (CC).
